Release of the 2026 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) (2025 Edition)New

The 2026 Journal Citation Reports (JCR, 2025 Edition), a database that evaluates journal impact based on Web of Science data, was released on June 17, 2026.

This year’s release, titled the ‘JCR 2025 Edition,’ provides various evaluation metrics—including the Journal Impact Factor (JIF)—based on Web of Science citation data from 2025.

Please note that following its initial release every June, JCR data continues to be updated through October, with the final Journal Impact Factors being confirmed in late October. (The 2027 Edition is scheduled for release in mid-June 2027.)

 

◎ What’s new in the 2026 JCR release 

  • Expansion of Global Participation: 521 journals from 47 countries/regions have received a Journal Impact Factor for the first time. Notably, 58% of these journals are based outside of the United States and Western Europe.
  • Shifts in Author Distribution: Mainland China and the United States remain the countries/regions with the highest number of affiliated authors, accounting for 48% of all authors.
  • Growth in the Global South: The proportion of authors from the Global South continues to rise steadily. From 2023 to 2025, the countries/regions with the most significant increase in author share were Mainland China (23%) and India (12%). This trend underscores the deepening globalization and diversification of research outputs.(More info)
